While we talk about refugee issues, we talk more and more about open cities and inclusive societies. We try to understand what does an open society, open city mean. Open cities could welcome refugees and include them in their structure. It would be an amazing development in the whole “refugee” world. We wouldn’t talk any more about refugees and non-refugees, but we would talk about societies and cities for all. This article “Open City? – The Ground Floor as Socio-urban Resource” discusses the importance of public and community spaces in our cities. How can we use ground floor to develop open cities and societies.

The article by Benita Braun-Feldweg was published in the “Making City – A Compendium of Urban Alternatives” book edited by Francesca Ferguson. Published by Jovis Verlag.
